Billboard
Gallery
from 25 April to the end of June 2006 on the meadow in front of the Weissenhofsiedlung
To help celebrate »Stankowski 06 – Aspects of His Complete
Oeuvre« at the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, a temporary billboard gallery
will be set up. As an »outdoor public museum,« it will feature
a selection of famous company logos designed by Anton Stankowski on billboard-sized
posters.
From 25 April to the middle/end of June 2006, twenty billboards will present
other aspects of Stankowski’s works in a 100-meter-long area of
the meadow in front of the Weissenhofsiedlung. Things shown in the Staatsgalerie
as large projections and documents featuring letterheads and informational
pamphlets will find a direct dialogue here with the public. With this
unique temporary exhibition, the logos will be seen serving the purpose
for which they were made: to communicate with the public.
Besides the company logos, posters by students will also be on display.
Nadine Pfeifer, Katja Schloz, and Sebastian Fischer are the prizewinners
of a competition in the field of »visual communications,«
which took place in early March as part of the »Homage à
Stankowski« at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste
Stuttgart (State academy of fine arts in Stuttgart).
The billboard gallery is sponsored by the Garten- und Friedhofamt (Department
of gardens and cemeteries), the Kulturamt (Department of culture) of the
City of Stuttgart; a company specializing in outdoor advertising, Ströer
Deutsche Städte-Medien GmbH, and all of the companies whose logos
are represented. The Stankowski Foundation is responsible for organizing
and carrying out the exhibition. On April 5, three large billboards placed
in front of the Alte Staatsgalerie began advertising the exhibition in
front of the Weissenhofsiedlung.
